Dan Hardy open to rematch with Davis in Boston or Ireland

The bad blood between Irish-American Marcus Davis and English-born Dan Hardy has been well documented. It started with Hardy calling Davis a fake Irishman; stating that his popular status in Europe was undeserved because he wasn't from Europe. Davis took exception to those comments and some alleged pranks involving photoshop and gay pictures. Hardy denied photo-shopping any pics but does claim to have instigated members of a few MMA forums to have at it.

The talking continued to go back and forth, with Hardy instigating and Davis reacting. Davis continued to get more and more agitated throughout the buildup to the fight, to the point that he admitted to "hating' Hardy and genuinely wanting to hurt him.

Hardy however, had a different plan in mind. He stated, directly after the fight and at the post-fight press conference, that he used the negative personal comments to "get under Davis's skin." He went on to say that he had no problem with Davis personally and respected him as a fighter and a person.

Davis was having none of it however.

At their UFC 99 fight this weekend, after the fight decision was rendered in Hardy's favor, Hardy attempted to seek out Davis to make peace, but the visibly distraught fighter waved him off and walked away.

Undeterred, Hardy sought out Davis backstage in a another attempt to bury the hatchet. Davis confirmed the meeting but isn't quick to forgive Hardy for the personal insults.

"He (Dan Hardy) came into my dressing room to talk after the fight and I said I won," said Davis at the post-fight press conference. "He said it was close and he wouldn't argue. That took something, I guess, but he's not apologizing for going too far with the talking. I won the fight. I scored more take-downs, more submission attempts, and out-powered him the whole fight."

Davis is calling for an immediate rematch and wants the fight to be held in either Boston or Ireland. Hardy told FiveKnuckles.com that he's open either local.

"I understand why Marcus is still upset," Hardy told FiveKnuckles.com. "He trained his ass off and came in great shape and didn't beat a guy he hates. If he wants to let this get to him, that's his business. There is nothing I can do to fix it; other than ask for a rematch and let him kick my ass (laughs). If I have to fight him again, I don't care where the fight is. I never had bad blood in the first place. I was just having fun (messing) with him. My skin is too thick to get upset about nasty remarks."

Whether the rematch comes to fruition or not, the colorful Hardy claims that his days of calling out opponents are over, for now.

"I'm not eying anyone next just yet," Hardy said. "I want to see who Joe Silva wants me to fight without any of my mouthy influence!"

While Hardy isn't eying any opponents, he does appear to have his eye on Davis's camp, stating that he has deep respect for the camp and everyone in it from Davis to head trainer Mark Dellagrottei.

"Mark (Dellagrottei) is a top guy. I would love to work with him at some point, but right now it would cause too much stress in his camp. I have a hell of a lot of respect for him and how he trains his fighters."

Don't look for that to happen anytime soon, as Davis would surely be adamantly opposed....
