Antonio Silva (born September 14, 1979) is a Brazilian mixed martial arts fighter. He initially fought in the super heavyweight division, but currently competes in the heavyweight weight class. He is the first and last EliteXC heavyweight champion.
Silva suffers from a condition called Acromegaly, which causes the enlargement of facial and body features because of a tumor in his pituitary gland.
Silva's most recent fight was at World Victory Road Sengoku no Ran 2009 where he defeated Yoshihiro Nakao in the first round. He has competed in organizations such as HERO'S, BodogFight and Elite Xtreme Combat.
On July 26, 2008 Silva won the EliteXC Heavyweight title with a second round TKO over former UFC veteran and the late Justin Eilers. Silva later tested positive after the fight with Eilers for the anabolic steroid Boldenone, was suspended for 1 year, and fined $2,500.00 by the California State Athletic Commission.
Following the ensuing debacle with the CSAC, Silva signed on to fight at Sengoku 7. Having been advised not to fight in Japan by the California State Athletic Commission, he ignored their advice, continually preaching his innocence. Pressure from the commission and his peers continued, but on January 4, 2009, Silva stepped into the ring against Yoshihiro "KISS" Nakao, winning an anticlimactic bout by TKO due to a knee injury in the first round.
