Cole won his preliminary fight on the show against Alan Berube by Triangle Choke in the first round. Cole was defeated by Joe Lauzon in the quarter-finals of the competition. The loss, though, was somewhat controversial due to an illegal strike to the back of Cole's head. Cole appeared obviously dazed by the illegal strike and was given time to recover. However, when action was restarted, it was clear the Cole was still feeling the effects of the strike. Joe Lauzon capitalized on Miller's depleted state and won the fight.
Since then, Cole was able to win his bout on the Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale against Andy Wang. Later he moved on to beat Leonard Garcia at UFC: Ultimate Fight Night 11. His winning streak came to a hault when he lost to Jeremy Stephens by TKO in the 2nd round.
