Jake Shields (born January 9, 1979 ) is an American mixed martial artist, currently fighting at 170 lbs (77 kg). He is the Rumble on the Rock 175 lb (79 kg) champion. He is the first & last Elite XC Welterweight Champion. He is also the former Shooto World Champion.
He has trained extensively with Cesar Gracie, David Terrell, Nick Diaz, Nathan Diaz and coaches a team of MMA fighter including top ranked light weight Gilbert Melendez.
Following the fall of Elite XC, Shields joined many of the contracted fighters in fighting for Strikeforce where he defeated Jason Miller for the vacant middleweight title. He left the promotion after just one defense and signed with the UFC. Shields won his UFC debut vs. Martin Kampmann at UFC 121 in Anaheim, California.
