War Machine (born Jonathan Koppenhaver ) is an American professional mixed martial artist. He was formerly a fighter on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Hughes vs. Team Serra.
War Machine grew up in Simi Valley, California, War Machine became interested in the sport of mixed martial arts by watching the bouts with his father. After completing high school, War Machine moved onto the military college of South Carolina, The Citadel, and majored in biology. War Machine always wanted to become a Navy SEAL, instead he gave up the dream for a chance to move to San Diego and a try out at Ken Shamrock's Lions Den.
He spent a year and half there and decided he needed to make yet another move, this time to Las Vegas, Nevada to train with Phil Baroni, Marc Laimon, and Dewey Cooper at Cobra Kai. He was given the nickname of "War Machine" by Baroni due to his bio-mechanical tattoos and his original sparring style which he says at first he "couldn't go light only hard." War Machine recently returned to San Diego to train at the Undisputed gym under world champion jiu-jitsu competitor Baret Yoshida and former boxing champ Robert Garcia.
War Machine has become known as the trouble maker of mixed martial arts, he has made comments about the death of Evan Tanner getting him released from the UFC. War Machine also made comments about The President Barrack Obama, stating someone needs to "smoke him", these comments got him released from Bellator Fighting Championship. He has also been arrested on several different occasions for fighting in public (night clubs).
