10 questions with Shonie Carter "The Belt Collector

Shonie Carter is a veteran of nearly every organization on the planet. The 12-year veteran has amassed a 47-18-7 pro record en route to 16 professional MMA titles. "Mr. International" has fought a virtual MMA who's who, earning big wins over Matt Serra, Chris Lytle, Dave Menne, and Jason MacDonald. Carter has had hard fought battles with Pat Miletich (2x), Nate Marquardt, Karo Parisyan, Nate Quarry, and contender Jon Fitch ultimately losing those battles. Mark Peel of FiveKnuckles.com recently sat down with the colorful Carter to discuss his future in the sport and a variety of other interesting topics.

FiveKnuckles.com: With this fight coming up, where have you been training at?

Shonie Carter: I have been training with the Guida brothers and at my school Keller Martial Arts. I don't look past anybody, first I'm fighting Derrick Nobel on Vendetta FC in Aruba.

FiveKnuckles.com: You hold several belts and have been fighting for many different organizations, you must be networking well?

Shonie Carter: In the past I've been very colorful and made certain organizations presidents nervous about what I've said, but I'm trying to be politically correct and handle my business.

FiveKnuckles.com: So what IS your opinion on Dana White and the UFC?

Shonie Carter: Right now if I was asked to fight, I'd wash Dana's car or mow Joe Silva's lawn.

FiveKnuckles.com: What would you think about your hometown Chicago hosting a UFC?

Shonie Carter: I'd like to see the Mayor and President Obama at a UFC event.

FiveKnuckles.com: What memories do you have and where were you at on election night?

Shonie Carter: Long story. Stuck in Bulgaria, but I remember thinking, "This really happened?"

FiveKnuckles.com: What would be your Dream fight?

Shonie Carter: I want to fight on UFC 124, My first UFC was 24 so it would be my centennial.

FiveKnuckles.com: What fighters would you like to train with or fight?

Shonie Carter: I'll fight anyone. I'll train with anyone. I'd like to get some autographs though. Mayhem Miller has been dodging me. Gina Carano just gave me a look when I asked her for an autograph. FiveKnuckles.com: I heard you wanted to be on dancing with the stars? What do you think about Chuck Liddell?

Shonie Carter: I love Chuck. But I have seen Chuck dance. I have the moves and the style. If you want an advisor on the show, call me Chuck. I have great suits.

FiveKnuckles.com: I read on GSP's blog that after UFC 100 you showed up in a golden Komono and speedo?

Shonie Carter: We have been buddies for a long time. We joke around a lot, but I got that in Japan.

FiveKnuckles.com: What advice does an MMA scholar like yourself have for up and coming fighters?

Shonie Carter: Train harder today than you did yesterday and train harder tomorrow than you did today.
