$300 or $400 a month for insurance from a private insurance company. FiveKnuckles.com: When are you looking to open your new school? Is it a long-term thing or is it coming up?
Phillipe Nover: We're hoping to do this shortly. We have a school ready, we're just looking to move to a bigger spot. We're just gonna work on the paperwork and work on some sponsorships. Tokyo Five is getting involved. They're big supporters, they're great people and they're great sponsors. They're fans of MMA and they really are knowledgeable of the sport and they really treat the fighters well. I think it can really be something positive. Brooklyn does not have a real MMA program to offer, and there's really no other fighters teaching there. So this is something I really wanna get involved in, and now's the time.
FiveKnuckles.com: Did you hear the news about the MMA legislation in New York slowly inching forward?
Phillipe Nover: Yeah, I've been reading some things on the Internet. I wish it was already done by this summer, but I know that as soon as it happens, I will buy my tickets! On Ticketmaster, I'll be the first person. I'll buy a dozen tickets, as many as I can get my hands on. They'll hold the UFC in Madison Square Garden, so I'm looking forward to that. And not only just for the UFC to hit Madison Square Garden, but there are so many other shows, where we have to travel to New Jersey for local shows.
FiveKnuckles.com: What do you think of a cruiserweight division in the UFC? Frank Mir, who coached TUF when you were on it, has said that he wanted to drop down to the 205 lbs. division. Do you think that's a good idea, or would he be better off in a cruiserweight division?
Phillipe Nover: I think that he would probably be better at the 220 division. I do believe the UFC needs a division in between the 205-ers and the 265-ers. That division is so big right now and not to mention there are a few up-and-coming heavyweights who are just insane. These guys came out of nowhere and they've been winning fights like crazy. Junior dos Santos, Cain Velasquez and Shane Carwin. The 265 division is stacked. A cruiserweight division would be perfect for the UFC at 220 or 225. I could see a lot of fighters entering that who don't really want to be fighting at such a heavy weight - 265 is big. There are only a few guys at 265 who cut to get to 265. I think Mir would be better off at a cruiserweight at 220. If he could get to 205, he'd really have to stop eating, and that sucks. And I know from the show, he loves to eat, so that would be a problem for him.
FiveKnuckles.com: He's just not a big guy like Brock Lesnar.
Phillipe Nover: He's not a big guy like Lesnar is. Lesnar is just so much bigger. Mir's also a big guy, but he's walking around at 245 or 250. Lesnar's walking around at 280, so he cuts weight to get to 265. It's a problem when you're fighting a guy who's got 40 pounds on you.
