Frankie Edgar Looks To Show He's Not A One Hit Wonder

I set out to do that night."

The party awaiting him at home had already started even before he boarded his flight to New Jersey. All of his supporters were out in full force waiting for their hometown here to return with open arms.

"I got home the next day. It was a long ass flight, but the reception I got when I arrived home was something else," offered Edgar. "There were fire trucks waiting for me and they took me home. I actually got to ride on top of one of the trucks. It was a champion's welcome for sure."

Being a UFC champion means much more than defending the title inside the octagon. There are tons of commitments, interviews and appearances that come along with the territory. Thankfully the Toms River resident knew what he was getting into and has taken it all in stride.

On top of all of those commitments is the added responsibility of being in the main event of the UFC's first ever foray in to Boston. When you combine all of that with the fact that the organization put together an immediate rematch, which is something they rarely do, it's enough to make one's head spin.

"The attention from the media has escalated a bit more, it's been a bit more demanding, but other than that I haven't noticed that much of a difference," said the once defeated Edgar. "My manager Shari has done a great job of handling the business end of my career which allows me to focus on training.

"My wife and I did enjoy our trip to the ESPY awards in June. GSP and our manager Shari were out there as well, it was definitely a good experience. To be surrounded by the top athletes in the world and get recognized by them felt pretty good. It really shows how far MMA has come. GSP had a lot of fans out there, it was incredible."

With the trip from Toms River, NJ to Boston, MA being a mere five or six hours, the demand on Edgar for tickets has gone way up. He is expecting a lot of friends and family to be in attendance on August 28, but won't allow the added pressure to get to him; in fact he thrives on it.

"There's going to be a nice little Frankie Edgar section in Boston," Edgar explained. "Last time the fight was in Abu Dhabi and I had some close friends along with my immediate family, but no one else was able to watch the fight in person. This time around with the fight being so close to home I am really looking forward to it."

It seems anytime Penn loses his fans and trainers come up with a litany of excuses for the loss. When he lost to GSP at UFC 94 it was due to the fact that St. Pierre was greasing. This time around Penn's trainer Rudy Valentino said that BJ had a sinus infection leading up to the fight and was prescribed antibiotics.

All of that means nothing to Edgar who expected Penn to be at his best in April and certainly expects him to be at his best on Saturday night. No matter which Penn shows up, Edgar knows that he will be bringing his "A" game to Boston.

"BJ has been fighting the same way his past couple of fights," said the man known as The Answer. "He likes to fight at his own pace and I like to fight...
