Yushin Okami talks about his UFC 104 loss
by Jacob Camargo on October 27, 2009
hit a plateau. He also spent some time training with Caol Uno and Takeya Mizuyaki at Yoshihiro Akiyama's recently-opened Team Cloud Gym. Could a change of scenery be all what Okami needs? Possibly a move to the States to rejuvenate his training regimen.

Okami also mentioned that his focus was not deterred from the fight after he lost his passport, which caused him to arrive in Los Angeles later than anticipated. However, it's not surprising that Okami did not admit that it was a distraction because fighters aren't one to use excuses after losses, but going through a stressful ordeal like he went through of losing his passport and having a flight delay, really does have to have a mental effect going into a fight.

The loss snapped a three-fight winning streak that Okami had put together, which included previous wins over Jason MacDonald, Dean Lister and the late Evan Tanner. He has put together a 7-2 UFC record since entering the Octagon for the first time in Aug. 2006. Okami also has other notable Octagon wins over Alan Belcher, Rory Singer and Mike Swick; while picking up his only other UFC loss against Rich Franklin.

 |  (6) Comments thebutterflybee: I really like some of what he said. I appreciate when fighters are brutally honest about their own shortcomings, and to see he is now considering uprooting to find better training to improve makes me like him alot more. Good luck to him. After so long out it could have been easy to come back, have a setback, and call it a day. But he really seems to want to crack on and get better. Wandering_Minstrel: I hate to use this cliche term, but what a classy guy. JujitsWho: I agree with everyone else as well. I like Okami a lot. I think he's right on the money with his thoughts about changing camps as well. He needs to train with bigger people here in the states if he wants to get out of this slump. I think Quest, Extream Couture or Jacksons camps would be great for him. Facing bigger stronger wrestlers on a regular basis like he would at these camps would keep what happened in his fight with Sonnen on Sat. from happening on a regular basis. Giada Esposito: I like Okami too. Sounds like another fighter on his way to Greg Jackson, lol.
