hit a plateau. He also spent some time training with Caol Uno and Takeya Mizuyaki at Yoshihiro Akiyama's recently-opened Team Cloud Gym. Could a change of scenery be all what Okami needs? Possibly a move to the States to rejuvenate his training regimen. Okami also mentioned that his focus was not deterred from the fight after he lost his passport, which caused him to arrive in Los Angeles later than anticipated. However, it's not surprising that Okami did not admit that it was a distraction because fighters aren't one to use excuses after losses, but going through a stressful ordeal like he went through of losing his passport and having a flight delay, really does have to have a mental effect going into a fight.
The loss snapped a three-fight winning streak that Okami had put together, which included previous wins over Jason MacDonald, Dean Lister and the late Evan Tanner. He has put together a 7-2 UFC record since entering the Octagon for the first time in Aug. 2006. Okami also has other notable Octagon wins over Alan Belcher, Rory Singer and Mike Swick; while picking up his only other UFC loss against Rich Franklin.
