Lashley's coming, and boy is he hard to miss

whose case is peerless. Every big fella with pro wrestling on his resume and MMA in his sights will unfairly be compared to Lesnar, who felled legend Randy Couture to win the UFC heavyweight belt in just his fourth pro bout.

Lashley and Lesnar each have alien musculatures and both were launched to a level of fame by the WWE, but that's about it for the comparison. Among the differences, the most important is that Lashley hasn't already banked millions off his pro wrestling persona to set up a fund for full-time MMA training.

Obstructing that option with some kind of MMA-only contract would be wrong.

If White is willing to give Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson a chance to win his way into the UFC through "The Ultimate Fighter", it's not out of the question to pony up a reasonable contract for Lashley that will allow him some economic freedom outside of the Octagon. Unlike Kimbo, he's proving something so far.

Other than Brett Rogers, there might not be another heavyweight on the scene with more upside than Lashley. He already has a bigger name than Rogers, a Strikeforce riser. Lashley could use a chance to iron out his flaws against better competition and position himself on the ladder to contention.

With the UFC, Lesnar avoided that route because he showed up when there weren't many top challengers to a throne left bare by Randy Couture's unhappy departure. That's not to say he didn't need buffing; he just wasn't required to log four or five fights as a primer.

Now, though, the UFC's heavyweight stable is thick with developing talent and established veterans. Except for Fedor Emelianenko, Josh Barnett and Alistair Overeem, the UFC has most of the world's top heavyweights under contract and maybe a handful of other prospects in the cooker this season on "TUF".

Why not add another burgeoning big man like Lashley to the company?

I bet White will figure something out. The sooner it happens, the sooner we can all begin salivating over the real possibility of a titanic clash between Lesnar and Lashley.

No cross-promotion will be needed for that one, thank you.
