Shinzo Machida talks MMA future; training brother Lyoto for upcoming rematch with "Shogun" Rua
by Giada Esposito on March 11, 2010
different this time?

At the beginning of the fight I'm not sure, but we want to avoid a decision. No one wants to leave it again to a decision. Machida was not very happy with the criticism, and Shogun probably isn't pleased with the result. This will encourage both to finish the fight, but we will only see what happens when the time comes.

How about you, when will you fight? Do you have anything coming up?

The priority now is Lyoto. As I am part of his team, I'm always training. I'm a brown belt in Jiu-Jitsu, I train Karate, and I get ready in case an opportunity arises, but that will depend on several factors. It will have to be a fight when Lyoto is not training. My father coordinates the coaching, but I oversee the training. This will affect my entry (into MMA competition). The priority now is him (Lyoto). But if I have an opportunity, I would like to test my skills too.

 |  (9) Comments Mtx: Good read Giada. Its quite surprising they are not thinking in an actual game plan for Shogun yet. I thought they would train in a more specific manner for Lyoto's upcoming fight, but I guess they are not that worried about it yet or they haven't find a solution. Either way I don't think its the right approach. The Hitman: i like this guy more than lyoto. seems like a cool guy. great article Wandering_Minstrel: Honestly, I think they're being pretty smart. Its as I said, they are changing things up a bit. A lot of champs have a hard time keeping the belt because of all the attention they garner and Machida is no different. I think if he's refocused he stands a better chance. Its hard to find a guy who has Shogun's style. I imagine they are already strategizing a gameplan, but keeping mum about it. They still have a bit of time before the fight and I believe they are probably working on Machida's focus and tightening up his skillset. thug4less: Sweet article. Personally, I think that they are keeping things quiet in terms of their gameplanning. I am a bit tired of new champions using that same old, "The new pressures of being champion" for getting all complacent. Like, seriously, if they have solid people around them then that shouldn't be that much of a factor. Anthony: But how about having Shinzo Machida fight Lance Evans?
