my build. I'd say a high percentage of NFL players have my build.FiveKnuckles- Looking back on your career, you have that loss to Ben Rothwell and now that you're both in the UFC, do you have any interest in avenging that loss?
Roy Nelson- If he has the belt. I try not to look back at the past, I try to keep going forward. We already know who was the better fighter in that fight. It all depends if he's one of the stepping stones for me to get ahead then I'm more than happy for it. But if he's already behind me then he's behind me.
FiveKnuckles- So it's not a "personal" thing between you two, it's just business?
Roy Nelson- No, if you already know who's a better fighter then you know.
FiveKnuckles- Coming into the The Ultimate Fighter show, did you feel like you were the favorite to win?
Roy Nelson- I felt like I had a good shot at winning it. Once I got to know the guys, I knew that I could try to capitalize on some weaknesses and use some of my strengths.
FiveKnuckles- Since TUF has started, we've heard some people say that they weren't happy with the way they were portrayed on the show. Did you feel like you were portrayed accurately?
Roy Nelson- What you saw was me. It all depends on how things are cut and edited. If you're joking around and call someone an asshole and everybody knows that you're joking around, but if they just cut to the part where you called the guy an asshole then it could portray you as a jerk. I think for the most part it is what it is. Editing is editing, and sometimes people show only one side of the story and not both sides. The show's only an hour long and we were there for six weeks, 24/7, so they gotta cut something out. For myself, everybody thinks I was on TV a lot, but I wasn't. They hardly even showed me but they showed Kimbo through the whole season. I might have been in there maybe 10%.
FiveKnuckles- Kimbo Slice seemed to be painted in a pretty positive light. We saw a lot of him being supportive to other fighters and trying to help people. What was your overall impression of Kimbo?
Roy Nelson- Kimbo's a great guy. After I beat him, I showed him how I beat him and stuff like that. He always seemed like he wanted to learn. He's definitely a guy who's there to fight and he's also there to make a couple of bucks. That's the whole reason why we do fight.
Fiveknuckles- I talked to Darrill Schoonover after the show was taped but before it aired and he said he was a bit surprised at how nice of a guy Kimbo was, that he wasn't really what he expected. Were you at all surprised by Kimbo?
Roy Nelson- Not really. I had met Kimbo before with Elite XC and I've been around the business for a long time and I've learned that a lot of people in this business do not shock me, either good or bad. A guy can be a total douchebag or a total cool guy.
FiveKnuckles- The show is watched by so many people. Has that kind of exposure changed your life much?
Roy Nelson- The exposure alone is probably the biggest change,...
