Dan Miller: We're both in similar situations so we definitely help each other out.
FiveKnuckles.com: Now, I need your honest opinion... who wins in a fight between you two? When I talked to Jim a couple weeks back, I asked him the same question and he said: "He'd pull your arm off and beat you with it."
Dan Miller: (Laughs) I don't know if that's necessarily true. It all really depends on the day and how I feel. Some days I kick his ass and some days he gets the better of me. As training partners we work together all the time so it's not like the idea is that farfetched. I'm not going to say he can take me, or I can take him, but we definitely make each other better, that's for sure.
FiveKnuckles.com: There aren't many brother combinations in MMA right now facing the level of competition that you two are. Can you describe how you both got to this point?
Dan Miller: We'll we were both always into the same things growing up. We were both wrestlers. We both played football. We both like to hunt and fish although Jim is a better fisherman than me. I'll give him that. Now, we both love to fight. We've always been on the same page.
As time progressed, we both missed the competition aspect of wrestling. When Jim came back from Virginia Tech and got some wrestling experience down there we decided to get back into it. At that time, it had been a while since I was competing in anything. We started with jiu-jitsu and that led us to MMA and now here we are.
Four years ago, I never thought that I would be living the life that I am now. It's basically a dream come true. I get to train full-time to make my living. I don't do anything other than train and fight and that's just awesome to me.
FiveKnuckles.com: Well, you've certainly had to earn your stripes along the way and you've been carrying your weight in the UFC. I see that you and Jim have had contract renewals?
Dan Miller: Yes we have. Now, it can change in a heartbeat, but as far as contracts are concerned, we both have everything we can ask for. We both have the chance to make our way up the ladder in the UFC. A fighter can't really ask for anything more.
FiveKnuckles.com: Now, your last fight with Chael Sonnen went the distance, but the decision didn't go your way. Did you learn anything about yourself in that fight?
Dan Miller: The biggest thing I took away from that fight is that I still have a long way to go in this sport and I have to be as dedicated as I possibly can be. Chael is a tough fight for anybody and I knew going in that I had my work cut out for me. Not to make excuses, but I had a lot of stuff going on in my life that didn't help me out in any way, but I'm not going to bitch and moan because there's nothing I can change. This is a tough sport and every fight is going to be a battle. I have to improve in all...
