UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva Main Card Preview
by Mike Williams on January 02, 2010
fighter of Daley's caliber. "Semtex" has won 10 of his last 12, including three in a row. Those losses came to Strikeforce champ Jake Shields and Nick Thompson, respectively. Over the span of his 22-8-2 career he has knocked out 17 of those opponents and has often done so in a spectacular fashion.

Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva

In the main event, two light-heavyweights will throw down in hopes of getting back to Lyoto Machida, the current UFC champion who dealt both of these men the only losses of their careers. Evans, a former Michigan State wrestler, has been training with mma guru Greg Jackson since 2005 and has rounded out his game nicely. He's scored 5 knockouts in his 13 pro wins, the most memorable a 2nd round right hand that put Chuck Liddell to sleep at UFC 88: Breakthrough. He won the belt in his next fight against Forrest Griffin only to lose it to Machida in his very next fight. Evans made his UFC debut at The Ultimate Fighter 2 finale where he won the fight and the show as a heavyweight over Brad Imes. He appeared as a coach on the 10th season of the show where his team dominated over the opposing team which was coached by Rampage Jackson. Evans and Jackson now have a genuine dislike for each other and they were supposed to settle the score until Jackson took a leave of absence for a role in The A Team movie.

Thiago Silva is one tough Brazilian with cans of gunpowder for hands. He's floored 11 opponents in his 15 pro fights and submitted 2. His first fight in the UFC was a TKO victory over James Irvin and he's since gone on to win 4 of 5, the loss to Machida being the only break in the streak. His most recent win was a 1st round knockout over Evans' good friend and training partner Keith Jardine. These two will more than likely stand and battle but anyone who dares take Silva to the mat just might find themselves tapping on said mat shortly thereafter. Silva is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu who once trained at Chute Box Academy but now calls American Top Team his home.

So while we might not see Andersen Silva vs. Vitor Belfort or Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin, anyone who decides not to watch this card is probably going to miss out on the UFC's equivalent of New Year's fireworks.
