another 10-9 on our card. Round three: Maia gets Miller down and lands some punches but Miller stands again only to find Maia on his legs again. Miller pulls guard as Maia drags him away from the fence. Maia tries to pass but Miller holds half guard. Maia is doing some damage but doesn't have Miller in serious trouble. Miller is testing out his new black belt with a triangle attempt but Maia gets free. An attempt to pass by Maia is once again averted by Miller. Miller lands a few elbows from the bottom as the round ends in another 10-9 for Maia.
Final result: Maia wins by unanimous decision.
Mike Swick vs. Paulo Thiago
Round one: Swick lands an immediate leg kick then they feel each other out. Thiago lands a high kick but Swick shakes it off. Thiago wins an exchange then Swick hits him with a solid right. Swick works his jab then lands another leg kick. Thiago lands a good leg kick and Swick stumbles. A leg kick by Swick then a flurry that mostly misses. Thiago misses a high kick and Swick shoots and takes Thiago down with less than 30 seconds left. Thiago ties him up and avoids damage but the takedown steals the round 10-9 on our card.
Round two: They exchange some jabs and leg kicks then Thiago lands a nice body kick. Swick responds with a solid leg kick then lands a good right that's countered by a Thiago left that sends Swick down. Swick is defending as Thiago jumps on him but Thiago sinks in a d'arce choke and sends Swick to dreamland.
Final result: Thiago wins by submission at 1:54 of round 2.
Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen
Round one: Sonnen takes Marquardt down but lands in a guillotine. Sonnen gets his head free and starts scoring from Marquardt's guard. Sonnen's ground and pound is calculated and methodical. Marquardt is able to kick out of the onslaught and get to his feet where he lands a flying knee but Sonnen absorbs it and takes him down again. Marquardt is bleeding and Sonnen continues to drop elbows and punches, dominating the round. The round ends with more of the same. Some may score it a 10-8 but we'll go with a 10-9 for Sonnen.
Round two: Sonnen looks confident as he comes out and takes Marquardt down instantly. Sonnen continues the ground attack but Marquardt tries a kimura and slows him down. Sonnen gets his arm free and immediately starts feeding it to Marquardt again. Marquardt is rocking and flopping but just can't get free. Sonnen's base is wide and solid. He postures then drops two huge punches as he falls back down. A Marquardt elbow from the bottom has opened a cut on Sonnen's forehead and Marquardt is covered in his blood. Marquardt attempts a leg lock then goes for an arm but Sonnen is just owning him. Marquardt finally scrambles free but only to be taken down again immediately. 10-9 Sonnen.
Round three: Round 3 begins with Marquardt attempting a takedown but Sonnen stuffs it and scores a takedown himself. Marquardt is trying to control Sonnen's head and keep him from posturing but Sonnen is finding enough space to score. Marquardt works his way up the cage and stands but Sonnen drags him down again and lands in Marquardt's half guard. Sonnen's patient with his attack and Marquardt scrambles to his feet and lands a knee to Sonnen's head when he shoots. Sonnen...
