UFC 5: Return of the Beast

This event featured the first ever non-tournament "Superfight" between Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock. The winner of this bout would become the reigning UFC Champion. Ironically the superfight overran by 1 minute leading to a spot-decision to extend the bout five more minutes. The match ended in a draw declaring no champion as judges were not present for the record 36 minute fight.
This marked the last event involving Rorion Gracie. The introduction of new rules diluted his family's vision for the UFC therefore Gracie and Art Davie sold WOW Promotions and three-time champion Royce Gracie followed with his departure from the UFC.
