any thoughts on the rematch between B.J. Penn and Frankie Edgar? Phillipe Nover: My thoughts on the Frankie Edgar rematch? People come with excuses for fights. I only checked out a little bit of the previous fight, but I know that people are saying that B.J. Penn was sick and he had the flu and he had a sinus issue. That is a problem, but the truth is, Frankie Edgar won the fight. I heard he scored a take down, and no one ever scored a take down on B.J. Penn. It wasn't a clear-cut victory. People are statistically saying that he was out-striking Frankie and it was a back and forth thing. Frankie is a smaller guy, but when you grab him, he's super powerful, he's super strong. No other 155er has that pound-for-pound type of power that Frankie has. I think he would dominate in the 145 division, but he's dominating the 155 division. My thoughts on that? It's 50/50 right now. I like Frankie, but I like B.J. a lot too. I was surprised when the fight went past the first round. I didn't know if Frankie was going to go that far, but he trains hard. And I wish him the best of luck. It's about time we get some east coast support. Especially a title holder. So Frankie Edgar is the man, right now.
FiveKnuckles.com: In your MMA career, would you ever consider a change in weight class? Maybe up to welterweight?
Phillipe Nover: No way am I moving up to welterweight. I'm walking around at welterweight right now - I'm at 175. But I would have to cut back to 155. And for all the fans who thought I would go to 145, I doubt I would be able to do that. I've been lifting a lot and trying to get really strong and strengthen certain muscle groups that were weaker. I've been doing a lot of strength training with my neck and my shoulders, and I feel like that was my weakness: my strength and power. I'm gonna stay at 155, for sure.
FiveKnuckles.com: Any last words? Anything else you want to let us know about?
Phillipe Nover: I'd like to give a shout out to one of my friends who recently got contracted with the UFC: Dave Branch. He got a four-fight deal. He's one of my really good friends, training partners, sparring partners. This guy is the man. And he fought in Bellator; he's undefeated. He's fighting on the Shane Carwin card (UFC 116) on July 3. So make sure all you guys watch that. He's fighting a very tough Gerald Harris. But he's got a lot more skills than Gerald Harris. Everyone's gonna say, "Where the heck did this guy come from?" And they're gonna say, "He's from Brooklyn, New York."
