the money was right and my manager wanted me to do it, I would definitely go up to 155 (pounds). I think I could hold my own there. I can definitely go down to bantamweight if the fight made sense. I think I'm strong enough to compete with the 155'ers. I walk around anywhere from 155 lbs to 158 lbs. Not too big. If I had a certain diet and stayed on it, I could easily get to bantam. I would have to diet all year round for that I think. FiveKnuckles.com: Much has been made about big name fighters unwilling to fight one another due to friendships; Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida say they won't fight. The American Kickboxing Academy welterweights Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch and Mike Swick say they'll never fight each other. It's well known that members of the famed Jackson's Submission Fighting will not square off. What's your take on fighting a friend or a teammate?
Joe Soto: It's one thing for a teammate, you know, not sure about that. If we were #1 and #2 guys in the world and everyone wanted to see that fight... why not? As far as teammates, if we were big names and people wanted to see us fight, I'd be for it. If it's a friend, somebody you know and not a teammate, I don't see any problem. I'm trying to make money so later on when I'm done I can have my own little business or something. I'm here to fight. I got a lot of friends but I'm here to fight. That's my job. I look at it like this: I have three brothers and I'll fight my brothers (laughs). If I can fight my brothers, why can't I fight my friends?
FiveKnuckles.com: You're currently undefeated at 8-0 with some big wins under your belt and starting to get notoriety. How important is it for you to stay undefeated?
Joe Soto: I want to stay undefeated. I never want to lose. That's the goal and I think it's really important for your career. People see that "0" there it means a lot. It raises your stock. It's something I want to do and it's always on my mind. I try to win every fight; I don't want to lose. I don't see losing in my future. If anyone tries to give me a loss, they are definitely in for a war. I'm not going to let anyone win over me.
FiveKnuckles.com: Many would make the argument that the best fighters in your weight class currently compete in the WEC; guys like Mike Brown, Urijah Faber and Jose Aldo among others. Can you see yourself testing your skills in the WEC eventually? Have you been contacted by them?
Joe Soto: I haven't heard anything. Maybe the WEC has contacted my manager, but I'm happy at Bellator right now. I still feel like I have so much to learn and there is so much information I need to know. So many techniques and many things I could improve on but you never know. If I could fight in the WEC, that would be cool. It'd be cool someday if the UFC had 145'ers too. I think that's something I might want to do, but I'm down with Bellator and what they have. I love fighting for them. I kind of just do whatever my manager tells me. He got me out here and I just do what he thinks is...
