5K Exclusive Interview with Roy Nelson: "If I look like a douche then I look like a douche."
by Mike Williams on March 13, 2010
just the fact that I can't go into Walmart without getting recognized or just walking down the street. It's just that type of PR (public relations) stuff from being on The Ultimate Fighter and being on Spike's #1 TV show ever in history is something big.

FiveKnuckles- If you were ever approached about going back and doing the show again as a coach, is that something that you would be interested in?

Roy Nelson- Oh, definitely. I think there's a lot that I can bring to the table when it comes to coaching, so that's why I actually got into this business. Before I even started fighting, I was a coach. I love teaching.

FiveKnuckles- Is there anything that you'd like to add or anyone that you want to thank?

Roy Nelson-  I always want to thank all my team mates, all my coaches, all my sparring partners, and of course my sponsors like TapouT, superaction.com, cangles.com, and of course my management.

I think he's a fairly well-rounded fighter and, just like Brock, he uses his physique to his advantage. It'll be interesting to see how he fairs with Struve because if he can get past him then they are sure to give him a contender. MAStudent: Good piece, Mike. He will beat Struve. Struve rties stuff, and has some decent technique on some things, but I woulnd't call him a "smart fighter" like Roy is. Struve is just out there doing stuff, Roy will figure him out. Giada Esposito: Nice interview Mike. Nelson's an interesting character. I was glad to see him win TUF 10, and I'm looking forward to his fight with Struve. That will be a good test for both of them, and it will be interesting to see who the winner moves on to face next. Ares: Interesting interview, Roy Nelson is quite a character, I'm still not entirely convinced if I like him or not, but I think I do. His fight with Struve should be a good test of his ability, he's certainly got the frame and credentials to give Struve a lot of problems. mike5k: Thanks everyone. As you could tell from the interview, he's got a good sense of humor. He was really cool. Some guys just do interviews because they kind of have to and you can sense the difference right away. Roy was glad to do it and that makes for a much better piece that's easier to do. The Hitman: watch out for big roy. he has what it takes to make an impact. Mtx: Great interview Mike. I really think Roy is a guy who just doesn't care what other people think of him and just speaks his mind. I'm not a big fan of him but I do respect him. I don't see him getting a title shot, but I do see him surprising more than one with several performances. thug4less: Cool interview, Mike. I liked what Roy had to say about his physique because it's kinda true what he said. You look at him and think, "He's fat." But alot of pro football players have guts and crap but you go up and punch one of them in it and can damn near break your hand.
