knew I could show my skills and do well for myself and it was life changing. Getting on the show was the biggest thing I could do for my career. The show gives the fans a look into the way a fighter lives from a personal stand point. I have a good fan base now and the UFC thinks I'm marketable. I'm glad to have made it this far and I plan to move forward even stronger.
FiveKnuckles.com: It's no secret that Dana White was very impressed by you during your run on the show. On one episode, he made the comment that you "remind him of a young Georges St. Pierre." How did it make you feel to hear that and does it put added pressure on you to perform at a higher standard?
Phillipe Nover: It definitely shined some light on me. A lot of people never even heard of me before the show. A lot of fighters never even heard of me before the show. They all did their research and still didn't know who I was. It was like a shot up to the top of the heap when Dana compared me to one of the greatest athletes in the world (GSP). It was an honor to have somebody say something like that, but I don't believe I'm anywhere close to him right now.
I think he compared me to him because I'm able to put things together fast. I pick things up quick and that allowed me to be well-rounded on the show. I was able to stand-up on my feet and get submissions on the ground. I was able to do good clinch work, I showed good take downs, and I was solid with my ground and pound. Dana's the man to impress around here and I'm glad I was able to show him something,
A comparison to GSP is a little steep, but I do know that I'm the next Phillipe Nover. I know I have many things to work on and I'm willing to do so. I want to showcase my own personal style every time I go out there to perform. I'm still a little fish in this game, but I'm going to continue to grow. GSP is an incredible athlete, but he had to come from somewhere. At one point, nobody even heard of GSP and it wasn't that long ago at all if you really take a look at it. A lot of things can happen in a short time if you stay focused and keep the right things in mind.
FiveKnuckles.com: White obviously isn't stupid and he has the right to make a comment like that because he knows what he's looking at. He also made the comment about you being the toughest registered nurse on the planet. Now, I'm not sure if Amir Sadollah works the same position as you, but he is in the medical field and looked very good in his last couple fights.
Phillipe Nover: (Laughs) I think the UFC gets confused every now and then. Amir Sadollah works in the medical field, but he isn't a registered nurse. I'm not too sure, but I think Amir is a lobotomy technician or something similar... and he's also a pretty damn good fighter as well. That was a great fight he had earlier this month...
