Undefeated Lyle Beerbohm is on the fast track to success
by Tommy Kail on October 30, 2009
to be with Elite XC and I signed the worst contract (with Elite XC) that anybody could sign. The company ended up going out of business, from there Strikeforce picked up my contract and right now I'm trying to get a better deal. I can't make any money under the contract that I have now so if I don't get a better deal I won't be able to fight and make a living. I'm pretty sure Strikeforce will work something out, they've always been fair. I'm hoping we work something out for the benefit of both parties. If not, I'm not going to be able to support myself so we'll see what happens.

FiveKnuckles.com: Is there a fight in Strikeforce you want right now?

Lyle Beerbohm: I want the belt. In my opinion, there's only one reason to be in this sport and that's to be the champ. I want a shot at whoever has the belt in my division and right now it's [Josh] Thompson. I believe Gilbert [Melendez] and Josh [Thompson] are fighting soon so we'll see what plays out. In the meantime, I'll fight whoever they put in front of me, but I eventually want a shot at the title, that's my goal and I'll do what it takes to get there.

FiveKnuckles.com: What are your thoughts on Strikeforce's Fedor vs. Rodgers event in November on CBS?

Lyle Beerbohm: I've seen the commercials with Fedor and I think it's great for the sport. Strikeforce is doing the right thing to make the sport grow by getting it out into the mainstream. Scott Coker is great, he's a really good business man and he's got this thing moving in the right direction. There's also a bunch of talent in the mix with all of the DREAM, K1, and Strikeforce fighters so the match-ups are there. I know I fit into the picture somehow. I got the best record for a lightweight in the world at 13-0. I've beaten Gerald Strebandt and Duane Ludwig who both fought in the UFC as well as Rafaello Oliveira who is fighting in the UFC as we speak. I've finished them all in the first round.

FiveKnuckles.com: Do you ever see yourself fighting in the UFC?

Lyle Beerbohm: Definitely. I want to fight the best guys in the world. I want to put myself to the test. I've only been fighting for 2 ½ years, give me another year and I'm going to be a lot better than I am now. At this point in time I honestly want to fight for Strikeforce, I really do. They have great fighters in their organization, they have what I want. I just hope they want me as much as I want to fight for them. I'm not sure. I hope we can get a contract worked out.

FiveKnuckles.com: When fighters reach a certain level of success, they tend to branch out and find a training camp that will serve them better in the long run. Is that in your plans or are you happy up in Washington?

Lyle Beerbohm: I've been to some of the bigger training camps; I've been over to Matt Lindland's Team Quest and a couple other places. What I've learned from those experiences is that I got something very good here in Spokane. My team is called "Fancy Pants Fight Team" and I have a bunch of good guys here with me. We train twice a day, six days a week and we get it...
