MMA Elite Prospect Profile: Ben Askren
by Tommy Kail on November 03, 2009
A three time All-American at Arizona State and he's done very well internationally. He didn't start fighting until about a year and a half ago, but he's picked everything up very quickly. He's taken to the stand-up game very well and his take downs are on point. I think he's a guy that's going to cause a lot of people problems because of those attributes.

FiveKnuckles.com: Where do you see yourself in a year?

Ben Askren: I'll be in Arizona doing the same things that I'm doing now, but hopefully better (laughs). You know, I don't know how fast this is going to go. Urijah Faber gave me some advice when I first started and he said you've got to be patient in this sport. I've taken that advice to heart. I would like everything to happen faster. I would like to have been in the UFC six months ago, but things just aren't going to happen that fast. I'm going to be patient and take it fight by fight. My goal at one point is going to be the best in the world at my weight class, but I'm not going to put it on a timeline. Whether it happens one year or five years from now doesn't matter. In the meantime, I'll be taking my fights as they come and I'll be working at improving all aspects of my game.
