I trained at in Missouri was a satellite school for American Top Team. Signing the contract with them just made official the direction I was already heading in. Besides that, the fighters down there are amazing. Luigi Fioravanti, Din Thomas, Yves Edwards, Jorge Masvidal -- there's too many of them to mention. All of these guys bring something different to the table and we all help each other out. When I fight, I want to be confident because I train with some of the best guys in the world. FiveKnuckles.com: How have you been preparing for your next fight against Rudy Bears?
Tyron Woodley: Rudy Bears is a tough stand-up fighter. He's a southpaw and comes out hard. He doesn't like to be on his back. He doesn't like to be taken down. These are things that I know about him that I can use. I've been working very hard to be successful in that fight. One thing about being in Strikeforce is the opponents are always going to be there. I've been in so many situations before where fights and organizations fell through. I probably had ten to twenty opponents cancel fights on me. When I called Strikeforce I told them I'll fight ten times in two years if need be. They're trying their best to keep me busy and I'll take every fight I can get. Now that I know exactly when and where I'm fighting and who my opponents are going to be, I can go about my career the right way.
FiveKnuckles.com: You're pursuing a Master's degree while training and fighting. Where do you see yourself in a year from now?
Tyron Woodley: Yeah, I just had a group presentation the other day. I'm going to pull my hair and I don't have much hair to pull. I'm doing Public Administration, but I see myself doing damage. Mentally, I expect a lot out of myself. The people I train with expect a lot out of me. I've been to many gyms across the country including American Kickboxing Academy, Team Quest, the H.I.T. Squad and American Top Team. I might be a new face in Strikeforce, but I've been sharpening my skills behind the scenes for a while. A lot of people out there know I have talent, but sometimes I have to believe more in myself, and positive reinforcement from the people that have seen me work means a lot. As long as I surround myself with the right people, I'm confident my goals will get reached. To get to where I need to be I'm going to have to go through some people.
FiveKnuckles.com: Is there anybody you would like to thank or add to this interview?
Tyron Woodley: I would really like to thank the fans for their continued support. I'm chartering a bus from my hometown to my next fight which, as stated before, is November 20th against Rudy Bears at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. My plan is to have a hundred plus fans come to out for support. I've been getting a great response with that and I appreciate it greatly. Even people that can't make it out are coming up to me and saying they're going to watch on Showtime.
