compare their strengths and weaknesses, and how do you imagine the fight going? Sotiropoulos: BJ's boxing game is looking better and better each time he fights, he ended his last fight with a kick, everything about BJ's looking good. His conditioning looks good, although some people question his conditioning, there's nothing wrong with it. He's got great jiu-jitsu, great striking skills, great wrestling defense, great wrestling, he's an all-around, well-rounded fighter. Frankie Edgar - he's got awesome wrestling, probably some of the best. He's quick, and he's got great boxing. And his boxing's improving at the same time. I'd give this one to BJ, I just think BJ's got all the tools to beat him, and to finish him; but again Frankie Edgar's quick, he's got fast takedowns, he's lightning quick, great boxing. I think its going to be a great fight. He deserves the title shot, lets put it that way.
FiveKnuckles.com: In 2006, you fought Shinya Aoki, a man many people consider to be the number 2 lightweight fighter in the world. What was that experience like, and what are your thoughts on Aoki as a fighter? Also, how do you think Aoki would do in the UFC?
Sotiropoulos: I think Aoki would do very well in the UFC. He's done well in Dream and in Pride and Shooto, he's a great fighter, there's no reason he couldn't replicate the success he's had in Japan in the UFC. As a fighter I think he does very well when things are going his way, he's very strong; if things don't go his way he starts to crumble under the pressure. (When I fought Aoki) It was a challenging fight, there wasn't too much action standing, when it hit the ground he secured a grip of my leg and was looking for a heel hook, he had a very good grip of my foot, and at one time it was tight, but I managed to survive and escape through repeated attempts at foot locks. And obviously it ended up in a disqualification. I had to remain both calm and focused in that fight because I was under a lot of pressure from his heel hook attempts. Hopefully one day he ends up in the UFC and I get to rematch him. I remember that night it felt like an anticlimax, because I didn't win, but I also didn't lose. I got disqualified for a so-called low blow that I don't think was a low blow.
FiveKnuckles.com: In recent years, the UFC has been expanding more and more into international venues with events in Canada, the UK, Ireland, Germany, and now Australia and Abu Dhabi. How significant do you think this is to the global growth of MMA, and what countries would you like to see as future venues?
Sotiropoulos: It's very important. Australia is a huge market for the UFC. In terms of the sport growing globally it's a big step forward. The sport's becoming a truly global sport, its going to have a big impact, the sport's going to grow, martial arts are going to grow, and everyone's going to benefit from it. I would like to see it go to Greece as well, because that's where the sport originated from in the ancient Olympics, when it was known as Pankration. And I would like to see it go to Greece as well because I also have a Greek background as my name suggests. I'd love to fight on that card as well. But, it's a huge plus to see it going to...
