I have a firsthand take on that subject and that question is becoming a bit of an issue with certain fighters. Honestly, fighting your own brother would be tough and I'm not sure if that's something I could do. Now, fighting a close training partner is another story. If two guys that train together are at the top of the heap and fans want to see them fight, then that's exactly what they should do. If it comes down to a fighter being expected to face his training partner, then there's no question it has to be done. Jim would really have to make me mad if I were to fight him, but we train together every day and I punch him in the face all of the time so I'm not sure what the difference would be in an actual fight. We go after each other in training and there is no holding back. I'm trying to make him better and I wouldn't be doing that by holding back. I wouldn't do anything malicious towards him, but I don't do that to my opponents in the first place. Honestly, it never crossed my mind and it's highly unlikely that would ever come about because I outweigh him by thirty pounds.
FiveKnuckles.com: I'm obviously asking that question hypothetically and I'm certainly not condoning the situation. I know you're way bigger than Jim so there's no way you're going to be asked to fight one another. Besides, there are enough opponents out there for you two to stay busy for years.
Dan Miller: You're right about that. We do have our hands full.
FiveKnuckles.com: (Jokingly) but to quote Jim, he said: "If Dan can make it down to 170, I'll sign on the dotted line."
Dan Miller: (Laughs) I don't know how much more weight I can lose. I might be able to meet him at 180, I may be able to lose five extra pounds, but that's it.
FiveKnuckles.com: Is there anybody out there you want to thank?
Dan Miller: I want to thank anyone that's had anything to do with my career including my friends, my family, my coaches, teammates, and everybody else. I'm excited to be in this position and I'm looking to bounce back strong in this next fight.
FiveKnuckles.com: Thanks a lot for your time Dan. It's been my pleasure to have you for an interview and best of luck at UFC 109.
Dan Miller: Thanks a lot.
