5K Exclusive: LC Davis: "That was a long 15-minute chess match."
by Natalia Baage on March 17, 2010

On March 6, LC Davis won a grueling three-round majority decision over Deividas Taurosevicius, where much of the fight was spent in the clinch and up against the fence.

After taking the past week off to recoup and rest his legs, Davis is back in the gym, training with his strength and conditioning coach. While he has no new fight scheduled yet, he is looking to get ahead and start working out now.

Last week, LC took the time out to talk to FiveKnuckles.com about his win, his friend Jens Pulver, and his future.

FiveKnuckles.com: Congratulations on your win last weekend.

LC Davis: Thank you!

FiveKnuckles.com: It was a long 15 minutes, wasn't it?

LC Davis: Yeah. That was a long 15-minute chess match.

FiveKnuckles.com: When we spoke before your fight, you had said you wanted to finish fights, but this wasn't exactly a striking battle between the two of you. How is that sitting with you?

LC Davis: I'm a little frustrated about it. I wanted to use my stand up more, but he kept his distance really well. And when he did get close to me, we ended clinching up a lot. It was a frustrating fight, but I'm glad I won.

FiveKnuckles.com: How did you feel about the judge who scored it a draw, with a 29-29 score?

LC Davis: I'm not sure how he came up with a draw because you have to score a fight 10-9, so I'm not sure how he was able to score it a draw. I didn't really like that call, but that's cool.

FiveKnuckles.com: In the post-fight press conference, you had some comments about Jens Pulver. You trained with him throughout your career. How did you feel about his fight and all of the retirement talk?

LC Davis: I was disappointed to see him go out like that. I did train with him, and I know that he still does have talent. I work out with him, I know he still has the ability to fight. It's just been unfortunate to see him lose all those fights in a row. I wish him the best. I'd like to see him at least have a good performance going out, but I feel for him. I'm sure that's gotta be hard on him and his family. I just wish him the best and I think he'll be great in whatever else he does.

FiveKnuckles.com: Do you think we're done seeing him fight?

LC Davis: I don't know. I think he might want to fight again. Who wants to go out on a loss? So I think he still might be interested in doing it again. If it's a small show or whatever, I don't know. I know if I was in his shoes, I would want to get a victory and go out with a win.

FiveKnuckles.com: What's next for you?

LC Davis: I think I moved a little bit farther in the division, and whatever the WEC has for me next, I'm going to train hard and be ready for that. I'm gonna focus on my jiu-jitsu. I think every fighter has weaknesses, and I think my main weakness is fighting off my back. I'm gonna focus these next couple weeks or month strictly on jiu-jitsu, working on my weakness.

Its good that he's already working on his weaknesses now. He's got a bright future ahead of him with dedication like that. Oh... did you really have to use the pic of him getting kneed in the groin? GO HARD: handjob is pretty clean isnt it? GO HARD: this one. GO HARD: i was showing kable another picture. like the picture on this article... and the picture on the alves article... just some odd pictures to have. i would have went diff directions.
