Bellator welterweight champion Lyman Good is recovering from a serious injury that has put him out of training since August 2009.
Fans last saw Good in June of last year, when he won the 170-lbs. division title by beating Omar de la Cruz in the first round. Two or three months later, while wrestling in practice, Good's left shoulder popped out of place. He popped it back in and went to see the doctor the next day. The doctor noticed inflammation, but said the shoulder would be fine.
Five or six months later, Good's shoulder was still hurting, so he went to a second doctor for another opinion. The second doctor said that Good's whole chest muscle and tendon had ripped off from the bone.
Good had surgery on his chest/shoulder area in mid-January. After revisiting a doctor in early March, he no longer needs to wear a sling, and the doctor was surprised by Good's range of motion.
Now, it should be another five weeks before Good can start training again. Good said that he feels no pain, but his arm is very weak. He has "the itch" to fight, and is looking very forward to being able to train and compete again soon.
