better. I put a video out called "Giving the Fighter One More Round" that really shows what we as cut men do because there's really no information like that out there. The video is the first and only of its kind that shows the correct ways of taking care of a fighter from wrapping the hands to the swelling and the medicines we use. It basically gives a rundown of what we do. You know the old cut men would blow me off and as a result, I promised myself I would never be like them. If anybody asks me a question, I always answer it and do my duty for the sport.
FiveKnuckles.com: That has to be one of the better ideas of anything that pertains to fighting. You're giving back to the sport by lending people years and years of knowledge. There are so many gyms across this country and others that need to know this kind of stuff.
Stitch Duran: I'm just glad to be able to do it. Somebody recently asked me: "What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?" Whenever I die or retire from this game, if there's one thing I want to bring to the forefront, it's education. That's what I've been blessed to do and we make this game better on all levels through education.
FiveKnuckles.com: And you're writing a book now if I'm not mistaken?
Stitch Duran: Yes, but it's more about my life story. My good friend Zac Robinson is writing my book entitled "From Migrant Worker to Madison Square Garden: The Jacob ‘Stitch' Duran Story." It starts from when I was a kid as a farm worker and having dreams of being a professional baseball player to working with the greatest fighters in the world... and finally having the chance to make it to the "Mecca" at Madison Square Garden. My life has been a bit interesting and there's a lot of education in the stories.
FiveKnuckles.com: At the end of the day, you have a lot to be thankful for and I'm sure you can sleep easy at night knowing you got many things to look forward to.
Stitch Duran: You're right man, I do have a lot to be thankful for and I've never once steered off of my path. I know there are a lot of good years ahead of me so I want to do the best job that I can, and I always want to represent this game the best way I know how. I take care of the fighters and that's what I do best.
FiveKnuckles.com: Well "Stitch," I can honestly say I've enjoyed this interview more than any other and I honestly appreciate you taking time out of your day to talk fighting with me.
Stitch Duran: Thanks a lot Tom. Keep up the good work brother.
