George Sotiropoulos exclusive: "Fighting in Australia is a great privilege."
by Giada Esposito on February 05, 2010
she has never given me one single problem about training.

FiveKnuckles.com: George, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to talk to me today. Is there anyone you would like to thank or mention in conclusion?

Sotiropoulos: First, I'd like to thank Leonard Gabriel my boxing coach, of Fisticuffs boxing gym in Vancouver, Washington for training me and going out of his way to help me. And I'd like to thank Eddie Bravo in Los Angeles, California for doing the same. I'd like to thank the guys down at Impact Jiu-Jitsu in Beaverton, Oregon for their help, and I'd like to thank Saohin Srisuk for travelling to Fisticuffs to train me in Muay Thai, and I'd also like to thank my wife for all her support.

I really liked the point he made about maintaining a fairly steady weight all year round and dieting down really close to his weightclass for his fight. I think I said it in another thread but I really believe that's why so many fighters come in looking like crap or barely making weight. Being strict about all that stuff is tough. I also had no idea that dude traveled so damn much. Man! Talk about a vagabond existence. He's gone from dry-ass Vegas to wet Washington to freaky Japan. Unbelievable. No wonder he was annoyed with alot of those unappreciative fighters during his cycle of TUF. Good job, writer-lady. JujitsWho: God damn!! I thought I was long winded. No wonder it took you so long to transcribe this interview LOL. I guess its much better than giving one word answers though right. George is a pretty cool guy. Those were all good questions that he went into pretty fine detail to answer. The breakdown of his BJJ and Joe Daddys was spot on. I was thinking that as well. I really do think Joe is more dangerous in top position where George is more versitle in that aspect. I'm really looking forward to this fight. Great job Giada. Good interview and a great read :) Mtx: Great interview. George is quickly becoming one of my favorite and I think this fight with Joe is a huge step in his career. He really did had a lot to say, thats cool :D JujitsWho: Yeah....I'd been waiting on this interview for a while now. It really did turn out good. Very informative LexTalionis: good read, he's been around the world a bit then. well done Giada LexTalionis: i just don't see Joe getting KO'd or even TKO'd, when was the last time he lost in that fashion? he's go a pretty solid chin. I'd like to see George win but i will take the safe bet of Stevenson UD ashka: Great read Giada, I found out heaps of things about George that I didn't know. I think most Aussies who really have the drive to succeed in their chosen fields are like George - you've got to work so much harder, travel so much further, volunteer for the hard yards wherever possible. It's the only way. James Te Huna, the Aussie who is making his debut at UFC 110, had his training camp in Vegas, purely because of the amount of pro MMA fighters he got to spar with daily. I'm looking forward to the match up with George and Joe. I like both fighters a lot and I think we're going to see all aspects of the game come into play. My heart wants to go with George, my brain with Joe, but I will be happy regardless.
