Alan "The Talent" Belcher looks to have come into his own as of late. Belcher, winner of four of his last five fights, has somehow managed to stay under the radar.
While his number of recent wins is impressive, the names attached to those wins are equally impressive and including the likes of Denis Kang, Partick Cote, and Wilson Gouveia. The sole blemish on his record in the last few fights came at the hands of Yoshihiro Akiyama in a highly contested bout which saw Belcher fall just short, losing via split decision in the opening fight at UFC 100.
With his impressive streak in tow, It would appear that Belcher believes that his time has come and he made sure that fans and the rest of the division knew it. After an impressive win over Cote, Belcher called out current middleweight champion Anderson Silva. This prompted UFC President Dana White to state that Belcher would now be in the mix for a title shot in the near future.
Although and upcoming opponent remains to be seen, Belcher has his own thoughts on who he should fight next.
"Right now we're pushing for Demian Maia because I think the UFC has plans for everyone else," said Belcher in an interview conducted on MMAJunkie.com Radio. "I think that's an interesting fight. That will help me solidify the No. 1 contender spot.
"I think the timing would be right for me to fight Vitor Belfort after that."
Both match-ups would be a big step up in competition for Belcher, but he is seemingly undaunted by that fact.
"It doesn't really matter to me as long as I get a few weeks to mentally prepare for whoever it is that I fight," said Belcher. "I'm ready whenever.
"The UFC has to give me the big fights now, I've earned them."
