With its WEC 47 event complete and rapidly approaching on March 6, the promotion now aims to start filling its WEC 48 card in April. The event, which will be the organizations first Pay-Per-View, is arguably the most important to date.
The latest booking for WEC 48 is a lightweight bout between Alex Karalexis and Zack Micklewright, which has reportedly been verbally agreed upon for the un-aired preliminary portion of the card.
WEC 48: "Aldo vs. Faber" takes place on April 24 at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif., and will retail at the same price as a UFC PPV at $44.95. The event is headlined by a WEC featherweight championship bout between champion Jose Aldo and challenger Urijah Faber.
Mickleweight most recently scored a unanimous decision win over Muhsin Corbbrey in his WEC at December's WEC 45 card. He has put together a 7-0 MMA record since making his pro debut in October 2006, while picking up other wins in notable promotions such as; Extreme Challenge, Midwest King of the Ring, and Glory Fighting Championships. Micklewright has scored stoppages in five of his seven career wins.
Karalexis (10-4) hasn't fought since defeating Greg McIntyre at WEC 39 in March 2009. He was originally slated to fight Kamal Shalorus at this past November's WEC 44, however, he was forced off of the event with a broken hand.
Prior to the win over McIntyre, Karalexis lost back-to-back fights against Ed Ratcliff and Bart Palaszewski. He holds a 4-2 WEC record, with other wins in the promotion coming over Josh Smith, Thomas Denny and Olaf Alfonso.
Before he switched over to the WEC, Karalexis went 1-2 in three fights with the UFC, losing to Jason Von Flue and Kenny Florian, while picking up his lone win with the promotion over Josh Rafferty. Six of his 10 career wins have come via stoppage including five by TKO or KO.
