Alexander Emelianenko to face brother's Sambo arch nemesis
by Jason Benfari on June 22, 2009

Aleksander Emelianenko, brother of world famous heavyweight, Fedor Emelianenko, has confirmed that he'll face Blagoi Ivanov on Sept. 29 in Seoul, South Korea. The fight will be part of Korean-based Fighter Mania Championship's inaugural card.

Ivanov, who famously defeated Fedor Emelianenko at the 2008 Russian President's Cup Sambo competition, will make his MMA debut against Pride FC veteran, Kazuyuki Fujita on Aug. 2 at Sengoku 9.

Aleksander Emelianenko (14-3) has won 6-straight with none of his opponents making it out of the first round during that stretch. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound Russian born fighter has flown a bit under the radar after being ousted from the Affliction: "Banned" card last year. Reasons for the ousting range from visa issues to a rumor that Emelianenko has contracted Hepatitis, which would prevent him from competing in the U.S perminently. Since then the former PRIDE veteran has been fighting for M-1 Global.

Interestingly, within the span of a month the Emelianenko brothers will be fighting opponents who have beaten the other brother previously. Fedor's opponent at Affliction: "Trilogy', Josh Barnett, submitted Aleksander Emelianenko in a PRIDE event back in 2006 and, as mentioned, Ivanov defeated Fedor Emelianenko at the 2008 Russian President's Cup during a Sambo competition.
