Alexander Gustafsson wants to bring the UFC light-heavyweight title to Sweden
by Alfredo Reyes on January 07, 2013

"Always focus on the title. My main goal is to bring the belt home. We have no belt. It would be amazing, and probably the greatest achievement for the Swedish and European MMA." - Alexander Gustafsson via Tatame

Swedish mixed martial arts standout Alexander Gustafsson explains his motivation for fighting and gives his thoughts on bringing the light-heavyweight title back to Sweden.

Gustafsson is currently 7-1 in the UFC with his lone defeat coming at the hands of current teammate Phil Davis who submitted the Swede via anaconda choke in the first round at UFC 112.

Since the loss, Gustafsson has made wrestling a big part of his training regiment and has defeated notables James Te-Huna, Thiago Silva and Mauricio Rua during his current six-fight winning streak.

After his dominant unanimous decision victory over Rua at UFC on FOX 5, UFC president Dana White declared Gustafsson the number one contender to Jones' light-heavyweight title, and he will likely face the winner of Jones and former middleweight contender Chael Sonnen who are scheduled to face off on April 27.

If Gustafsson becomes the light-heavyweight champion, he will become the first European ever to win a UFC title.
