Fresh off of a quick victory this past weekend, Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem will next fight at Sunday's DREAM 12 event against Pride veteran James Thompson. News of the bout was first reported by MMA FanHouse.com.

Dream 12 takes place on Oct. 25 at Osaka Castle Hall in Osaka, Japan, and will air in North America on HDNet. The event will be DREAM's first-ever caged fight card.

Overeem's upcoming DREAM 12 bout will be his sixth fight since defeating Paul Buentello to win Strikeforce's heavyweight title in Nov. 2007. Overeem had been slated to defend his Strikeforce title twice this past summer, but hand injuries forced him out of both defenses. Overeem is expected to return to Strikeforce early next year.

Overeem (30-11) is unbeaten in his last six MMA bouts, which include five stoppage wins and one no-contest. He most recently scored a first-round submission win over Tony Sylvester at last Saturday's Ultimate Glory 11: "A Decade of Fights."

The win over Sylvester was Overeem's first MMA bout of 2009, as he had gone 1-1 in K-1 action this year, losing to Remy Bonjasky and defeating Peter Aerts at last month's K-1 World Grand Prix 2009 Final 16.

After DREAM 12, Overeem will fight Ewerton Teixeira in the first round of the K-1 World Grand Prix 2009 Final on Dec. 5.

Thompson (14-10) is currently on a four-fight losing streak, which includes well known losses to Brett Rogers and Kimbo Slice under the now-defunct EliteXC banner. He most recently lost to Jim York at Sengoku 7 in March. Thompson has not tasted victory since defeating Don Frye at Pride 34 in April 2007.

The long-time Pride and Cage Rage veteran has finished all but one of his 14 career wins, including nine by TKO or KO. He holds notable wins in his six-year career over the likes of Dan Severn and Hidehiko Yoshida.
