Another change has been made to the UFC 99 fight card as Heath Herring has pulled out of the co-main event against undefeated heavyweight Cain Velasquez. An illness that has kept him out of training the past few weeks is now forcing him off of the event according to MMA FanHouse.
UFC officials have confirmed Herring's exit and a replacement will be named on Wednesday.
UFC 99's first change occurred yesterday when Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic announced his intentions to return at UFC 99 against Mustapha Al Turk, who was originally slated to fight ATT heavyweight Todd Duffee on the preliminary portion of the card.
Herring was looking to return to the octagon for first time since losing a three round decision to Brock Lesnar at UFC 87 nearly 10 months ago. Since joining the UFC in January 2007, Herring has put together a 2-3 record with his last win inside the octagon coming at UFC 82 against Cheick Kongo.
Highly touted heavyweight prospect Cain Velasquez entered the UFC in explosive fashion and has not disappointed. He's earned wins over Brad Morris at UFC 83, Jake O'Brien at UFN 14 and most recently Denis Stojnic at UFC fight night 17 in February. Velasquez sports a perfect 5-0 MMA record, all by way of TKO stoppages.
UFC 99 takes place June 13 from the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany. The evening's main event is a 195-pound catchweight bout between former UFC middleweight champ Rich Franklin and former Pride middleweight champ Wanderlei Silva.
