Seven-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Andre Galvao will make his long awaited Strikeforce debut against Luke Stewart on March 26 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California, in what will be the promotion's seventh Challengers series event.
Galvao recently revealed the news to Tatame.com.
"I'm expecting the victory." Galvao told Tatame. "I'm training hard and I wanna be back with the victories. He's from jiu-jitsu too, likes to play on the ground and has some victories by KO on his record."
Galvao suffered the first loss of his young MMA career in his last bout against Jason High in the semi-finals of the DREAM welterweight Grand Prix in July at DREAM 10. He previously defeated veteran John Alessio in the opening round of the tournament in April at DREAM 8.
Galvao has put together a near perfect 3-1 MMA record since making his professional MMA debut in August 2008, with all of his 3 career wins coming by submission. The 26-year-old Brazilian trains at the Black House training facility in Los Angeles along side Anderson Silva, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, and Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante, among others.
Stewart, who is also a Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt, is 1-2 in his last three bouts and hasn't fought since being defeated by Joe Riggs at Strikeforce: "Destruction" in November 2008. He sports 6-2 MMA record, with all eight of his career bouts taking place with Strikeforce. He has finished all of his six career wins and holds notable victories over Jeremiah Metcalf, Jason Von Flue and Bryson Kamaka.
