"I must fight in February or March, and I imagine that it could be against (Andrei) Arlovski. I lost to him by 2-1. It was an ugly fight, nobody liked it, but I never choose opponents. I can fight anyone, but then I wanna fight Fedor."-Fabricio Werdum
Strikeforce heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum recently spoke to Tatame.com about the possibility of a rematch with former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski in his next Strikeforce fight. Werdum and Arlovski previously fought at UFC 70, where Arlovski walked away with a unanimous decision win in what was considered by many to be a lackluster fight.
If the rematch is booked then it will likely be for March as Strikeforce officials have recently stated their reluctance to hold an event in February due to the Winter Olympics. Strikeforce has yet to announce the official signing off Arlovski, however, that could come in the next week or so with negotiations said to be in the final stages.
Since being cut from the UFC following a shocking loss against Junior dos Santos, Werdum has found new life with Strikeforce, winning his first two bouts with the promotion against Mike Kyle and most recently Antonio Silva at last month's Strikeforce: "Fedor vs. Rogers" event.
Werdum appears open to another fight with Arlovski, but his ultimate goal looks to be a fight with the number one heavyweight in the world, Fedor Emelianenko. Werdum has stated in numerous interviews that he feels ready for a shot at Emelianenko and there was a lot of speculation that Strikeforce may grant Werdum the next shot at "The Last Emperor." However, the San Jose-based promotion may have other plans for Emelianenko, possibly matching him against Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem when he returns from competing overseas.
