Andrei Arlovski signs new deal with Strikeforce
by Aaron Butler on March 02, 2010

Andrei Arlovski recently signed a new multi-fight, 16-month contract with Strikeforce. The former UFC heavyweight champion broke the news on his website earlier today. Arlovski will likely step back into the cage for Strikeforce's card in St. Louis, MO, on May 15.

His expected opponent will be former EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio Silva. Fans last saw Silva at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers against fellow Brazilian heavyweight Fabricio Werdum in November 2009. Silva was defeated by Werdum via unanimous decision.

Arlovski has not fared much better in recent bouts, losing to Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers, both by violent knockouts. Despite the losses, the Belarusian powerhouse is still a very dangerous heavyweight. Arlovski boasts some of the most technical and skilled hands in the heavyweight division, as well as knockout power. Arlovski also has a dangerous and often overlooked ground game, which makes him one of the most well-rounded heavyweights around.

Both Arlovski and Silva will be looking to get back to their winning ways of old when they step inside the cage to meet each other for the first time.

 |  (15) Comments The Hitman: i was waiting for this. im also waiting on the arlovski bounce back... Andrew: Have AA fight Lashley and either start or stop his hype train. Giada Esposito: It's good to see Arlovski coming back. If his head is in the right place he has huge potential, and training with Jackson's should help him there. I'm looking forward to this a lot. :) toki candy: metal GO HARD: i dont like andre arlovski... but good to see him sign a deal. now its time for him to be destroyd!! Mickey knox: I can see him coming back strong. He may have a questionable chin, but that only means he needs to work on his head movement and speed. If you don't have a good chin, don't get hit. Mtx: Can't wait to see him fight again. He knows how to get KOed in spectacular fashion :p In all seriousness, I have a soft spot for AA and I wish him the best on this fight. Silva is a big and ugly mofo, but AA should be able to take this one with his crisp boxing. he just needs to learn not to get over confident. GO HARD: so i took my son to see Strikeforce , Fedor vs Rogers in november. so there he is, andre arlovski. what a cool experience for my son if he can meet a fighter and take a pic with him....so we wait in line. were at the front of the line when arlovski decides that he doesnt wanna take anymore pics and walks off. i wouldnt have had a problem with this really but if u see a 6 yr old in the front of the line, u gotta be a bit of a dick to not take the pic. so that is why i dont like arlovski. q>: / GO HARD: its always possible. sometimes youll hear someone say that they had a great meeting with a fighter and the next person might think they were a dick. i dunno... but nevertheless, he made me mad and i dont like him no more. q; ( JujitsWho: Not liking a fighter because of not signing something is kinda silly IMO. Most of the guys go outta there way to interact with the fans, but even the friendliest guy has to go at some point. You're never going to be able to please everyone. Its a very tough position to be in for them ya know? GO HARD: well when its ur kid that is in the front of the line... and the fighter dips then its hard to like him. if it was me? i wouldnt care. but it upset my kid... u upset my kid, and i dont like u. q; )
