This will be Johnson's first bout since being released by the UFC earlier this year. Although he is regarded as a talented striker ripe with potential, Johnson's four year UFC career was marred by numerous counts of missing weight.
Johnson's latest incident with the promotion at UFC 142 was the last straw that broke the camel's back, weighing in at 197lbs in a middleweight bout with Vitor Belfort. Johnson would go on to lose the fight via rear naked choke in the first round and despite Johnson citing medical issues to be the cause of the missed weight, the UFC terminated his contract shortly thereafter.
Opposing Johnson in his Titan Fighting debut is Branch. Branch sports a 2-2 record with the UFC, holding unanimous decision wins over Rich Attonito and Poland Tomasz Drwal. A loss to Rousimar Palhares via kneebar at UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann prompted his release from the UFC but Branch has since rebounded with two victories in the local circuit.
Titan 22 is set for May 25 at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas.
