Up-and-coming welterweight prospect Anthony Johnson will reportedly face Yoshiyuki Yoshida on the Oct. 24, UFC 104 fight card.
Anthony Johnson has been in the news for the all the wrong reasons lately as he was arrested near the end of June on two felony charges and a misdemeanor, including criminal threats and domestic violence, involving an incident with his ex-girlfriend in Hayward, California. Johnson has since denied the charges and claimed his innocence but there is no telling how this will affect him mentally going into the fight.
Johnson hasn't fought since extending his win streak to two fights by defeating Luigi Fioravanti at UFN 17 in February. He previously defeated Kevin Burns at TUF 8 finale and was originally slated to face Matt Brown at TUF 9 finale in June. He was forced to withdraw from the bout, however, due to a knee injury. "Rumble" now holds a 7-2 MMA record, with 5 wins by TKO or knockout.
Yoshida is coming off a first-round submission win over Brandon Wolff at UFC 98 in May and is 2-1 in three fights with the UFC. In his other fights with the UFC, Yoshida was defeated by top-ten ranked welterweight Josh Koscheck at Ultimate Fight Night 16 and dropped a loss to War Machine (Jon Koppenhaver) in his UFC debut last May at UFC 98. Nine of Yoshida's 11 career wins have been stoppage victories.
UFC 104 will hail from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California and the main card of the event will air live on pay-per-view. The event's headliner is a light-heavyweight title bout between current champ Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.
