Anthony Johnson vs. John Howard set for UFC Fight Night 21
by Jacob Camargo on January 07, 2010

Up-and-coming welterweights Anthony Johnson and John Howard will look to settle their differences when they square off on the main card of UFC Fight Night 21 in March. News of the bout was first reported by MMAjunkie.com.

Prior to MMAjunkie's report, Howard hinted at a upcoming fight against Johnson on his official Twitter account.

"Me and Anthony crumble Johnson will be fighting time to shut him up. See u soon crumble ur ass is mine Here comes the Doom!" wrote Howard.

The UFC's booking of the fight between John and Howard is no surprise, as both men have been feuding for months now.

The feud started after Howard did not sign the bout agreement to face Johnson for their bout at last June's TUF 9 finale. Howard's management made the final decision though, claiming they didn't want their fighter facing such a tough test just in his second UFC fight. However, Johnson saw it different, calling him a "coward" and saying that Howard backed out and did not want to fight him to begin with.

Howard responded to Johnson's claims.

"I don't appreciate him calling me a coward or anything like that. He has to understand that the decisions that are made for me are smart decisions. My job is to fight. I don't make decisions about who to fight or when I'm going to fight, and I don't pull out of fights," said Howard." Anthony Johnson has been in the UFC a little longer than me, and it's not because I'm a coward. It just wasn't time... I want to fight him, and the first chance I get the 'okay' to fight him, I will. And he's going to eat his words - definitely. It's personal. He's going to regret ever questioning me."

Johnson (8-3) is coming off of a loss against Josh Koscheck at UFC 106 in November. The loss snapped a three-fight winning streak he had put together, which included previous Octagon wins over Kevin Burns, Luigi Fioravanti and Yoshiyuki Yoshida. Johnson sports a 5-3 UFC record, with all five of his Octagon wins coming via stoppage.

Johnson has fought the majority of his three-year career with the UFC, fighting eight of his 11 career bouts with the promotion. The accomplished collegiate wrestler has finished six of his eight career wins by TKO or KO.

Howard (13-4) scored a dramatic come-from-behind third-round knockout win over veteran Dennis Hallman at TUF 10 finale. The win moved Howard to a perfect 3-0 with the UFC, with wins in his first two UFC bouts against Chris Wilson and Tamdan McCrory.

Prior to joining the UFC, Howard fought mostly on the East Coast for notable promotions such as the IFL, Combat Zone, World Fighting League, Ring of Combat and Cage Fury Fighting Championships. He has scored stoppages in nine of his 13 career wins and holds notable wins during his five-year career over the likes of Jason Dublin (x2) and Charlie Brenneman.

UFC Fight Night 21 is tentatively set to take place on March 21 in Denver, Colorado and its expected to be the first of two UFC events aired live on Versus. The event will likely be headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between Jon Jones and Brandon Vera.
