A featherweight bout between Anthony Morrison and Mackens Semerzier is in the works for the un-aired preliminary portion of the WEC 48 PPV card on April 24 at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif.
News of the bout was first reported by MMAjunkie.com, which states that both fighters have verbally agreed to the bout, which is now the 11th rumored or official WEC 48 match up.
Semerzier (5-1) suffered the first loss of his young career in his last bout, as he was defeated by IFL veteran Deividas Taurosevicius at WEC 46 in January. Prior to the loss, he won the first five bouts of his career all by stoppage, including four by submission, which included a very impressive upset win in his WEC debut over Wagnney Fabiano at WEC 43 in October.
Morrison (15-8) is coming off of a first round submission loss to former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown in his WEC debut also at January's WEC 46 event. He previously won two straight bouts against Jeff Lentz and UFC veteran Alvin Robinson.
Morrison has competed for a slew of other notable promotions during his nearly four-year career such as; Ring of Fire, Ring of Combat, Art of Fighting, Shine Fights, Cage Fury Fighting Championships and the Virginia-based Combat Sports Challenge. He has finished 11 of his 15 career wins and holds other notable career wins over Kevin Roddy, Aaaron Steele and Dan Swift.
WEC 48 is headlined by a WEC featherweight title bout between champion Jose Aldo and challenger Urijah Faber.
In addition, WEC lightweight champion Benson Henderson will take on Donald Cerrone in a rematch from their previous "Fight of the Year" candidate at WEC 43 in October. Also, former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown will look to get back on the winning track against the streaking Manny Gamburyan.
