Anthony Njokuani vs. Shane Roller likely for WEC 48
by Jacob Camargo on February 24, 2010

A very pivotal lightweight bout between contenders Anthony Njokuani and Shane Roller has reportedly been verbally agreed upon for the quickly evolving WEC 48 card on April 24 at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif.

The winner of the match up between Njokuani and Roller will likely earn a much deserved title shot against the winner of the WEC lightweight title bout between champion Ben Henderson and Donald Cerrone, which happens to also take place at WEC 48.

Njokuani (12-2) is currently on a three fight winning streak, which include wins over Bart Palaszewski, Muhsin Corbbrey and most recently Chris Horodecki at WEC 45 in December. All three of those wins have come via TKO with all resulting in "Knockout of the Night" bonus awards.

Njokuani sports a 3-1 WEC record, with his lone loss with the promotion coming in his WEC debut against current champion Ben Henderson at WEC 38 last January. He has been competing professionally for nearly seven years, while fighting for other notable promotions such as Art of War and Ring of Fire. The Nigerian-American has finished seven of his 12 career wins by TKO.

Roller (7-2) has won his last two bouts, with his most recent win coming over Danny Castillo at WEC 44 in November. The win over Castillo earned him the night's "Submission of the Night" bonus.

The Team Takedown product has put together a nearly perfect 4-1 record in five fights with the WEC, scoring other wins over Todd Moore, Mike Budnik and Marcus Hicks; while suffering his only other WEC loss also against Ben Henderson. Roller, a Masters of the Cage and Extreme Fighting League veteran, has scored stoppages in all but one of his seven career wins.

WEC 48: "Aldo vs. Faber" will be the promotion's Pay-Per-view debut and will be headlined by a WEC featherweight championship bout between champion Jose Aldo and challenger Urijah Faber.
