Anthony Pettis vs. Clay Guida at UFC 130 or UFC 131

Ask and you shall recieve.

A lightweight contest featuring Clay Guida and Anthony Pettis is currently being discussed for late May or June according to several sources close to the negotiations. The news was first reported last night on Heavy.com

Pettis (13-1) was promised a title fight against the winner of the UFC 125 lightweight title fight between champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, but those plans were scrapped after the fight was declared a draw, triggering an immediate rematch.

Pettis, 23, who couldn't stomach the option of sitting around for the better part of 2011 waiting for his title shot, opted instead to call out a few big name lightweights, among them Clay Guida, who also competed at UFC 125

Guida (28-11) is 6-2 in his last eight contests including a submission win over former MMA great Takanori Gomi at UFC 125. The Greg Jackson trained fighter has shown marked improvement in his past few fights and is riding a three-fight win streak with successive victories over Shannon Gugerty, Rafael dos Anjos, and Gomi.

Not only will this be an exciting fight, but we get to see if the WEC Champion was truly worthy of a UFC title shot. Guida is a tough test for anyone at LW. Wandering_Minstrel: Should have been Jim Miller. D_V: I am hoping for Pettis. I have faith in his new found wrestling abilities, training with Askren et al. He's certainly the much better striker. I think this is an interesting fight but I'm thinking Pettis just beat somebody with better wrestling than Guida, actually better everything than Guida. It doesn't mean much though, because Clay is more relentless about his wrestling but I have some faith in showtime. He has karma on his side. He deserves to win. nygiant: My opinion of Needs a haircut Guida = 'slightly' talented gas tank. Won't last that long. GO HARD: im glad pettis aint fighting florian. cuz that would not have been good for him. pettis CAN beat guida... but its gonna be hard. guidas new dance moves are fucking insane and hard to offend. i too will be rooting for pettis. and yeah W_M miller would have been better but hes fighting Kamal already. mike5k: I picked Guida over Gomi but I don't think I can do it here. Pettis looks good but we're still finding out how these guys will fare in the UFC. Tough call for me but Guida's stand up is just so bad. I can't pick him over a guy who can strike AND defend his wrestling. snuff: I have Pettis by UD. Can't see a finish here. Guida still has some crazy weaves. GO HARD: keys to this fight. Guidas movement, Pettis TDD, and BJJ for both. Guida has been finishing with submissions... and Pettis submitted Roller with a triangle when Roller is a better submission artist then both of these guys. things that make u go hmmmmmmmmm.
