After some back and forth between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Frank Mir about the reasoning behind Nogueira's UFC 92 loss, Nogueira has addressed the comments and is ready for a rematch.
Recently, Mir spoke with RawVegas.tv and criticized commentator Joe Rogan's comments that were in defense of Nogueira's loss. On air, Rogan had spoke of Nogueira's illness and medical injuries, giving those as excuses for Nogueira's loss.
Before the UFC 92 event last December, Nogueira had torn his left knee and had been hospitalized for a week, approximately 20 days before his fight against Mir.
Nogueira has addressed Mir's comments, saying that he was not making excuses for his loss.
"There's a big difference between making excuses and giving the reason why," Ed Soares, Nogueira's manager, told MMA Junkie yesterday. "And just to prove that Nogueira is not making excuses, he wants his next fight to be against Mir, and he wants to fight him in December."
Six weeks ago, it was rumored that Mir might fight Cheick Kongo at UFC 107 on Dec. 12. If the UFC grants Nogueira's request for a rematch against Mir in Dec., Nogueira would take Kongo's place.
Following Nogueira's unanimous decision win over Randy Couture at UFC 102, Nogueira has been thrust back into the spotlight, yet again, as a top contender in the heavyweight division.
Nogueira currently has a 32-5-1 MMA record (3-1 UFC). Mir's MMA record is 12-4 (10-4 UFC), with his most recent loss from Brock Lesnar via TKO at UFC 100.
