Fresh off of a stunning performance in Brazil, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira wants to rematch Frank Mir according to tatame.com.
Nogueira recently battled rising UFC heavyweight prospect, Brendan Schaub, at UFC 134 in his native Brazil. Not only was "Minotauro" nearly a year removed from the fight game due to injuries, but many considered Schaub as the favorite as he rode a four fight win streak going into the bout.
"I knew my ground game was better than his (Schaub) and I knew I could trade punches with him, that I could smash him while striking. I didn't move backwards. He came and I moved forwards. If I wasn't trying to get his leg, I was punching him on his body and moved forwards. He was the one who moved back. I forced him at all times," Nogueira said.
Nogueira defied critics and won the bout in the very first round, a huge right hand that sent Schaub falling limp to the canvas and the following flurry was all it took to seal Nogueira's first victory of 2011. Looking ahead, Nogueira wants to avenge his 2008 TKO loss to Frank Mir.
"I'd like to fight Frank Mir, I want to fight UFC Japan. I'd like to fight UFC Canada, which will happen later this year. Fighting Frank Mir is something I'd Love to do. I'm motivated to fight him," Nogueira said.
Mir is currently unscheduled for any upcoming UFC events so a rematch with Nogueira is possible.
The former UFC heavyweight champion's last bout was against Roy Nelson, which he won via unanimous decision at UFC 130. Mir is 3-1 in his last four fights, on a two fight win streak.
Additionally rumors have been circulating that Mir is possible to have a rubber match with Brock Lesnar, who is making his return to MMA after recovering from another case of diverticulitis.
For Nogueira, whose future in MMA was called into question prior to his KO win over Schaub, is still focused on fighting in the future.
"I'd like to tell people I'm back. I'm back now. I still have a lot to do and I want to represent Brazil many times and fight in Brazil again," Nogueira said.
