A monster heavyweight bout between two giants, former EliteXC heavyweight champ Antonio Silva and undefeated prospect Ron Sparks is in the works for Sengoku 10th Battle. Sources close to Sparks' camp informed Fiveknuckles.com of the bout.
Sengoku 10 will take place on September 23 at the Saitama Community Arena in Saitama, Japan, and will air on HDNET in North America. 2004 Olympic Judo silver medalist Hiroshi Izumi is expected to headlined the bout against an as yet unknown opponent.
Silva has won his last five bouts, but hasn't fought since defeating Yoshihiro Nakao at Sengoku: "No Ran 2009" in January. Prior to the win over Nakao, he went a perfect 4-0 under the now-defunct EliteXC banner en route to capturing the promotion's heavyweight title. Silva sports an overall MMA record of 12-1, with an amazing 10 wins coming via TKO or KO. He suffered his lone career loss against Eric Pele at Bodog Fight: "USA vs. Russia" in December 2006. "Junior" holds notable wins in his career over the likes of Wesley Correira and Ricco Rodriguez.
Sparks was orignally suppose to fight tonight, August 22, against TC Shaw at a Vyper Fight League event in Louisville, Kentucky, however, the event has since been cancelled due to Shaw pulling out of the bout last minute.
Sparks potential bout against Silva could be his first bout in the heavyweight divison as all his previous bouts were in the super-heavyweight division. He is coming off a big win over seasoned MMA veteran Johnathan Ivey in June. The win was Sparks' first fight to make it to a decision. The "Monster" is off to an 5-0 start to his MMA career, with four of his wins ending in the first-round via TKO or KO.
