Strikeforce heavyweight and former Elite XC heavyweight champion, Antonio Silva, is looking to fight in the UFC according to mmajunkie.com.
"I really want to fight in the best event in the world, where the best fighters are. It will be awesome if the Strikeforce heavyweights make it over to the UFC. There are many great fights to be made," Silva said.
It is almost certain that many Strikeforce heavyweights would be looking to join the UFC ranks since Strikeforce is abolishing the division in 2012. As Scott Coker, Strikeforce CEO, recently pointed out, more focus is being diverted to Strikeforce's other weight divisions. The women's division and lightweight division are two in particular that Coker wants more attention in.
For Silva, he has been nursing a shoulder injury but is close to a full recovery and eagerly awaits his next fight to re-establish himself after an upset KO loss to Daniel Cormier at his last bout in early September.
"I had my shoulder operated on Nov. 22, and I am already 80 percent healed...My focus has been to stay in as good of shape as possible to make my recovery faster, and it worked," Silva said.
When and where Silva's next fight would be is unsure but it wouldn't be surprising to see "Bigfoot" inside the Octagon in 2012. Silva is sure to be a top prospect for the UFC, holding a 3-1 record over his last four fights which also includes a TKO win over Fedor Emelianenko.
"It does not always depend on me, but the day the invitation comes, you may be certain that I will be ready to honor it and give it my best. When I receive the call form the UFC, I will fight who ever Joe Silva wants me to fight," Silva said.
