"I'll come back to Rio, I have a surgery scheduled. I came to fight knowing I would have to go through a surgery. I didn't want to leave this GP, once Overeem left, and if I quit it wouldn't be nice. Since Strikeforce belongs to Zuffa now, I could even be cut. It's not an excuse, I used corticoid, but I was reckless. Cormier is to be congratulated, I made a mistake. I'll go through a surgery now and I won't fight ADCC. The doctor said that within a month I'll be back to the training, and I hope to fight as soon as possible, maybe in December. I want to fight once again until the end of the year so I have a chance to redeem myself." -Antonio Silva
Strikeforce big man Antonio Silva reveals that he needed to undergo surgery before stepping into the cage this weekend opposite Daniel Cormier. Silva was nonspecific as to the nature of the injury, but did say that the surgery was scheduled and is expected to keep him away from training for a month.
Fresh off of the biggest win of his MMA career, a 2nd round TKO over Fedor Emelianenko, Silva appeared outclassed against the more technically refined Cormier losing via first round KO. The former US Olympian took Silva down at will and landed seemingly every strike he threw, dropping the big heavyweight multiple times before finishing him toward the end of the round.
