Vitor Belfort may be forced to postpone his scheduled title fight against UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva after suffering an apparent shoulder injury in training.
According to Tatame.com, Belfort may not be able to recover in time to compete on the scheduled date, although there still seems to be some uncertainty about the extent of the injury.
"He was training but not using the arm for a long time because of the injury and he said he'd stop for a while," said Jayme Sandall, one of Belfort's trainers. "He said he'd have it scanned to know how bad it is, but I haven't talked with him for 15 days and I don't know about the results."
The UFC middleweight title has not been contested since UFC 97 on April 18 in 2009, when Silva defeated challenger Thales Leites, and has already been delayed once due to an injury to Silva's elbow that required surgery.
Belfort was granted a title shot after his catchweight victory at 195 lbs over Rich Franklin at UFC 103, although his anticipated match with Silva would mark his UFC debut as a middleweight.
